BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's soccer team will open its home portion of the 2007 campaign with two games this weekend against Lipscomb and Centenary. The Blazers will take on the Bisons of Lipscomb on Friday at 5:30 p.m., before returning to West Campus Field to take on the Gents on Sunday at 1 p.m. "We are playing two games this weekend against two tough teams in Lipscomb and Centenary," UAB head coach Mike Getman said. "We play seven of our next eight games at home, so this begins a very important stretch for us." The Blazers are coming off a tough weekend in which they dropped both games at the Westfield Insurance Cup in Akron, Ohio last weekend. UAB opened the 2007 season with a 3-1 defeat to Hartwick College, followed by a 1-0 loss against tournament host Akron. Juniors Trey Gregory and Frank Brown each earned a spot on the the all-tournament team. Both of UAB's opponents this weekend are also looking for their first wins of the 2007 season. Lipscomb opened the 2007 campaign at the Bradley Holiday Inn City Classic, dropping games to Bradley (2-1) and Eastern Illinois (2-0) last weekend. The Bisons welcomes back eight starters and 14 letterwinners from last season's 5-11-2 squad. Meanwhile, Centenary also dropped both of its games last weekend. The Gents fell 2-1 at Central Arkansas and 4-1 at Missouri State. Centenary, who lost to UAB, 2-1, at West Campus Field in 2006, returns 10 starters and 13 letterwinners from its 5-11 team last year.
