Brenda K. Baumann, M.D.

Dr. Brenda Baumann joined the faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine in 1993 and has served as the team physician for the UAB Blazers since 1996. She has held many exciting medical and administrative positions in her career. She has practiced rural family medicine and has served as an Emergency Room Director, a Regional EMS Director, Director of Student Health, and held the title of Chief Medical Officer for an insurance company. She has participated in Medical Technology Assessment, CQI, Disease State Management, Telephone Triage and Primary Care Research. Dr. Baumann likes to kayak, canoe and play tennis. She has devoted many volunteer hours as a soccer coach at the travel and high school level.

William P. Garth Jr, M.D.

Dr. Garth received his medical degree in 1973 from the Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed a basic surgical residency at Duke, followed by an orthopedic surgical residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tenn. After serving five years in the private practice of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Garth completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Sports Medicine Clinic of Atlanta in affiliation with Georgia Tech and assumed the medical directorship of the UAB Sports Medicine Clinic in 1985.

Dr. Garth is presently the Medical Director of the UAB Sports Medicine Clinic as well as the team orthopedic physician for the University of Alabama at Birmingham athletics program. He also serves as a Clinical Professor for UAB and is active in teaching medical students and orthopedic residents. Garth specializes in surgically correcting instability of the patella and shoulder, as well as reconstruction of the cruciate ligaments (ACL, PCL) of the knee and rotator cuff of the shoulder. He is well respected among his peers, as they have consistently selected him to be included in "The Best Doctors in America" for the past several years. His research of the instability of the patella and its correction has been published in many orthopedic and sports medicine journals. He currently has over 20 years experience treating athletes and safely returning them to competition
