Maulies Pettaway Jr joined the UAB staff in the summer of 2008 as an Academic Advisor with a concentration on the Blazers' football team.

Prior to UAB, Pettaway Jr worked in the Sports Education Leadership department at UNLV while working on his master's degree. He earned his master's degree in Athletic Administration from UNLV in May 2008.

Pettaway Jr spent his undergraduate career at Southern Miss obtaining his bachelor's degree in Sport Administration in May 2005. While at Southern Miss, he was a two-year letterwinner on the Track & Field team and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Prior to enrolling at Southern Miss as a junior, Pettaway Jr spent two years at Central Arizona College earning his associate degree in Liberal Arts. During his time at Central Arizona, he excelled in Track & Field, including placing eighth in the hammer throw at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Pettaway Jr is currently a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics and the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
